The John Nield Conservatory was built in 1907 and was the central focus in Stamford Park, a community asset shared by residents of Stalybridge and Ashton-Under-Lyne.
Sadly, a number of unsympathetic restorations in the mid-1980s and 90s led to the building’s demise.
In June, the local council (Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council) decided that the conservatory should be demolished. We are fighting that decision, as we believe it is an asset to the community with a wealth of historic significance to the generations of people who visit Stamford Park. We believe that there are significant community uses that the buildings could be used for, that the Council has not even considered.
